Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is a well-known intervention program for children who have literacy difficulties at the end of their first year at primary school. It involves reading and writing in a daily one-to-one lesson of 30 minutes with a highly trained teacher for a period of between 12 to 20 weeks. At the end of that time, most children have caught up with their classmates and can read and write at a level appropriate for their age. Reading Recovery is different for every child, starting from what the child knows and what he/she needs to learn next. The focus of each lesson is to comprehend messages in reading and construct messages in writing, learning how to use letter and word detail fluently without losing focus on meaning and comprehension.
