Assistant Buyer

Salary: £26,000-£28,000 DOE

Hours: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday

Are you an enthusiastic, organised, team player with excellent attention to detail? Do you have experience in book buying, selling or publishing with an interest in children’s books or education looking for a new challenge?
The role:

We are looking for an Assistant Buyer to join our team to help build and maintain relationships with publishers, representatives and wholesalers in the children’s, adult and educational books sector.

Key responsibilities:
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with publishers, representatives and wholesalers.
  • Processing orders with publishers, representatives and wholesalers and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Tracking and chasing outstanding orders and managing stock levels.
  • Resolving any issues related to orders or deliveries.
  • Analysing sales data and market trends to inform purchasing decisions.
  • Coordination of publisher promotions.
About you:
  • A minimum of one years’ experience in a book buying, selling or publishing role.
  • An interest in children’s books and/or education.
  • Knowledge and experience of stock purchasing and stock control systems.
  • Results driven.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good organisation and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable liaising, and negotiating, with publishers, suppliers, partners and customers.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team and liaising with colleagues internally.
  • Self-motivated and able to use initiative.
The details:
  • Reports to: Head of Buying.
  • Contract type: Permanent, full-time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Location: Based at our Birmingham office (120 Bromsgrove Street, Birmingham, B5 6RJ) a minimum of 4 days per week with the opportunity to work from home up to 1 day per week.
  • Salary: £26k -£28k, depending on experience.
