Read for empathy primary collection 2019

EmpathyLab is a brand new organisation seeking to develop children's empathy through reading and literature. We're not born with a fixed quantity of empathy – it's a skill we can learn. Excitingly, research shows that books are a powerful tool to develop it, because in identifying with book characters, children learn to see things from other points of view. So when you read with children you can build their empathy skills at the same time.

We're working with EmpathyLab to bring you this set of thirty fantastic books for 4–11 year olds, chosen by an expert panel because they're ideal for building children's empathy. A selection of picture books, novels, poetry books and graphic novels, they offer powerful insights into other people's feelings, and develop understanding of different ways of life and issues people face, such as being bereaved, or becoming a refugee.
