Solely judged by librarians and members of CILIP (the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals) the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenway Children's Book Awards are the oldest and most prestigious of their kind. Recognised as the gold medal in the world of children's literature, the awards have been won by many greats, including authors C.S Lewis and Terry Pratchett, and illustrator Quentin Blake. The CILIP Carnegie Medal aims to highlight the most outstanding English language children's books, whereas the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal is awarded to books which have demonstrated outstanding illustrative ability. Well, the 2016 shortlist for these awards has now been announced, so take a peek and be inspired to read some of these brilliant books.
