Stay in the know with the British Library

February 7th 2017

The British Library recently released some fascinating data that revealed the borrowing habits of the nation. From the most borrowed book titles, to the most borrowed authors, this data paints a powerful picture of the UK and our library users. Most importantly, the data revealed that children's literature dominates the current borrowing trends of the nation. For example, did you know that the Most Borrowed Classic Author is Roald Dahl, or that Julia Donaldson, Daisy Meadows, Roderick Hunt, and Francesca Simon are the top five authors to have clocked up over 1 million loans between 2015 and 2016?  It's all very impressive. Not only that, but all 5 of the Most Borrow Audio Titles were children's books by David Walliams, and two of the Most Borrowed Titles were part of the Jeff Kinney Diary of a Wimpy Kid series! We were blown away by the results, and are incredibly happy that so many children and their guardians are utilising local and school libraries. This can only be a good thing for literacy levels amongst young readers, and we hope that they continue to improve throughout the rest of 2017 and beyond.
