The School Library Association celebrated the 2015 Information Book Award on Wednesday 11th November with an event at the new London offices of sponsors Hachette. The overall winner chosen by the judges was Shackleton's Journey by William Grill, published by Flying Eye Books; whilst the Children’s Choice was Pop-Up New York by Jennie Maizels, published by Walker Books. The SLA Information Book Award, supported by Peters, is an annual event celebrating information books, and is designed to support school libraries and to reinforce the importance of non-fiction whilst highlighting the high standard of resources available. The winners in each category were: 0-7 Winner Tiny - the Invisible World of Microbes by Nicola Davies & Emily Sutton (Walker) 7-12 Winner Shackleton's Journey by William Grill (Flying Eye Books) 12-16 Winner The Teenage Guide to Stress by Nicola Morgan - (Walker) Overall Winner Shackleton's Journey by William Grill (Flying Eye Books) Children’s Choice Winners are – 0-7 Winner Ali's Story - His Journey from Afghanistan by Salvador Maldonado & Andy Glynne (BBC Learning, Wayland) 7-12 Winner Pop-Up New York by Jennie Maizels (Walker) 12-16 Winner The Teenage Guide to Stress by Nicola Morgan (Walker) Overall Children’s Choice Winner Pop-Up New York by Jennie Maizels (Walker) Between June and early November, schools were able to cast their vote for their favourite Information Book. The SLA and the sponsors were keen that schools, libraries, book groups and reading groups should have a say in the final decision. Each reading group could vote online for their favourite book in each category (Under 7s, 7-12 and 12-16) and for their overall favourite.
