One Million Minutes: winners announced

February 16th 2016

At the end of January, AFA (or Achievement for All) asked the schools of South and West Yorkshire to knuckle down and read for as many minutes as they could. Why, you ask? Well, after it was revealed that a quarter of all children leaving primary education aren't able to read at a good level, the One Million Minutes competition got to work with inspiring kids to read more than ever. Since January, the students of South and West Yorkshire have been hard at work, and we're incredibly excited to announce the two regional winners:

Class New Village Elm, from Bentley New Village Primary School in Doncaster. These speedy readers raced to the top of the leaderboard for the South Yorkshire challenge with a whopping 23,597 minutes. Class Rothwell 4, from Rothwell C of E Primary Academy in Leeds. The eagle-eyed students read for an impressive 12,895 minutes, putting them in first place for the West Yorkshire challenge.

Congratulations to the two winning classes, and well done to all of those involved, your input will have an incredibly positive impact on the reading talent of our children. Want to get your class involved? Keep your eyes peeled for more information on AFA's One Million Minutes, as the competition spreads across the UK.
