Lollies Award: 2016 shortlist announced

February 16th 2016

The Lollies Award, or the Laugh Out Loud Book Award, was launched to celebrate the books that leave you and your students in fits of giggles. Catherine Bell, of Scholastic, explained "we launched the Lollies because we know that if children feel good about reading books, they'll read more." Well, that makes perfect sense to us! To highlight just how funny books can be, Lollies hired a number of top judges to review a variety of novels, from those that explored how boring parents are, to stories full of hilarious toilet humour. From an extensive list of side-splittingly funny tales, the judges managed to narrow it down to an impressive list of 12 books:

1. Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise, Sean Taylor & Jean Jullien (Walker Books) 2. Gracie Grabbit and the Tiger, Helen Stephens (Scholastic) 3. I Need a Wee!, Sue Hendra (Simon & Schuster) 4. Slug Needs a Hug, Jeanne Willis & Tony Ross (Andersen Press) 5. Badly Drawn Beth, Duncan McCoshan & Jem Packer (Hachette Children's Group) 6. The Jolley-Rogers and the Cave of Doom, Jonny Duddle (Templar Publishing) 7. Wilf the Mighty Worrier Saves the World, Georgia Pritchett (Hachette Children's Group) 8. Thorfinn the Nicest Viking and the Awful Invasion, David MacPhail & Richard Morgan (Floris Books) 9. Danger is Still Everywhere: Beware of the Dog!, David O'Doherty & Chris Judge (Penguin Books) 10. The Parent Agency, David Baddiel & Jim Field (HarperCollins Publishers) 11. Petunia Perry and the Curse of the Ugly Pigeon, Pamela Butchart & Gemma Correll (Nosy Crow) 12. Emily Sparkes and the Friendship Fiasco, Ruth Fitzgerald (Hachette Children's Group)

Now that the shortlist has been announced, the judges are taking a back seat, and requesting your help in voting for this year's Lollies champion. You have until 10th June 2016 to have your say, so check out the Lollies site, and vote for your favourite Laugh Out Loud Book of 2016 today.
