The theme of Anti-Bullying Week this November is ‘One Kind Word’. Teaching kindness is fundamental to relationships education, with the message ‘be kind’ reinforced throughout bullying prevention work.
But how much time do we give to listening to the lived experiences of children, parents and carers and staff within our schools? Do children in our school agree it is a kind place? Are we kind in our daily interactions with one another, do we praise kindness and are we considering creative ways we can bring kindness into each day, through what we model, the stories we tell, and what we teach?
Kidscape, a national bullying prevention charity, and BounceTogether, an online mental health and wellbeing survey platform designed for schools, have worked together to provide schools with free online surveys based on the theme of kindness, to help measure experiences of kindness within the school community. This will help schools as they prepare for Anti-Bullying Week (15-19 November), will help inform future relationships education, and is integral to taking a whole school approach to keeping children safe from bullying and harm.
