Congratulations to the winner of the Klaus Flugge Prize

September 21st 2016

A huge congratulations goes to Nicholas John Frith, who has won the Klaus Flugge Prize for the most exciting newcomer to children's picture book illustrations, which he won for his book, Hector and Hummingbird (Alison Green Books).

The Klaus Flugge Prize was established by Klaus Flugge, who currently runs the publishing house Andersen Press (which will soon be celebrating its 40th anniversary). The award is administered by a range of high profile names in the world of literature, including Julia Eccleshare (Children's Books Editor of the Guardian) and Anne Marley (co-director of Authors Aloud UK).

Our MD, Ray Dyer, had a great time at the awards ceremony – he’s pictured here with Klaus Flugge himself.

Born and bred in Buckinghamshire, Nicholas John Frith didn't realise his talents as an illustrator until he was in his mid-thirties. Said to be inspired by vintage books and packaging from the 50s and 60s, Nicholas' work is full of vibrant colours and exudes an effortless style that echoes the work of cartoonists Hanna-Barbera. We're incredibly happy for Nicholas' success, and can't wait to get our hands on a copy of his award-winning work.
