Fleetdown Primary Academy

Peters' interior library space designers helped transform a noisy, open-plan working space adjoining a busy corridor into a welcoming learning environment for pupils at Fleetdown Primary Academy in Dartford.
The brief
When our team first visited, Fleetdown had an open working area, where they held classes, events and intervention sessions. However, with a constant stream of both pupils and staff passing through, it was often noisy, causing disruption to those using the space.
What Fleetdown's staff wanted was a welcoming ‘break out’ space that would keep out some of the noise of children and teachers passing by. While they did want book displays and storage, Fleetdown already use a local public library with their pupils – so their priority was creating a flexible space, one that would incorporate book display but also function as an inviting classroom area for pupils. All of which were considered in our design, including special selection from our furniture range including library bookshelves and seating for schools.
Our design
Peters’ Interior Designer Jay Rose proposed a flexible library space design solution which makes use of our popular Curvano range of shelving. Curvano shelves have lockable castor wheels, so they can be moved around, which allows schools to adapt their space in future as required.
Not only is it flexible, but the curved shelving also becomes an interior wall, helping create a feeling of privacy and sectioning off the space. The archway at the entrance is designed to excite children as they go through, and make the area behind the bookshelves feel more special. They now have a ‘room within a room’, where books can be displayed as pupils walk through, enticing them with new and topical titles.
Our flexible Curvano shelves are ideal for creating book displays that appeal to pupils |
"Peters created a great design which cordoned off the learning area, keeping it visible yet private. The design has made it a much more welcoming enviroment which is conducive to learning."
