Inspiring reluctant readers 2018

Turn reluctant readers into book lovers, and struggling readers into confident ones!

This jam-packed day will cover everything from discussing the gender gap in reading to ways that adults, both in school and at home, can play a crucial role in helping develop their children into life-long readers.

This session is suitable for all teachers, particularly those focused on literacy.

£15 cost to cover refreshments and lunch.

9am   Arrival and registration plus refreshments

9.35am   Boys don’t like reading – fact or fiction? The literacy gender gap – National Literacy Trust

10.30am  Break

10.45am   ‘Show me the funny’ – Tom McLaughlin, Author

11.40am   For the love of reading – Sonia Thompson, Deputy Headteacher and Tracey Adams, Assistant Headteacher from St. Matthew’s C of E Primary School, Birmingham

12pm   Lunch

12.45pm   ‘Caught or Taught?’ – Neil Griffiths, Author, former Primary School Headteacher and creator of the Storysack

1.40pm   Break

2pm   Removing the barriers to reading – Jane Walker, Barrington Stoke and Kaye Umansky, Author

3pm   Close

Please note there will be opportunities throughout the day for book signing. Books can be purchased at discounted rates from Peters on the day.
