Operations Manager

Salary: c £40,000 dependent on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday; additional hours as needed to cover overtime periods (including Saturdays)

Are you a natural leader looking for a fast paced opportunity that will test your operational skills and commercial acumen?

If so, we are looking for an Operations Manager to join our busy team in our central Birmingham office.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and overall management to Peters’ operational staff – consisting of the order picking, goods inwards, schools order management, library order management, order checking, production and dispatch teams (est. 50 staff)
  • Work closely with the Commercial Director to analyse existing processes, reduce waste, inefficiency and drive functional improvements.
  • The post holder will work with all key stakeholders across the business to ensure that SLAs and customer service outcomes are met.

Key requirements

  • A strong leadership background with a proven track record of building high functioning teams.
  • Strong organisational skills, with an ability to prioritise between competing demands.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels – from the board room to the shop floor.
  • Demonstrably good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written English.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications especially a good working knowledge of Excel.
  • Data led approach – able to interpret and leverage information and statistics.
  • Operational / plant level experience.
  • Have the desire and the drive to improve, to innovate, and to challenge the status quo.

Experience

  • Previous experience of proven business improvement methodologies such as Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma.
  • Previous experience working in book supply or similar industries.
