Whole class shared reading spines
In contrast to guided reading sessions where children work in a small group, whole class shared reading sessions focus on the whole class accessing the same text.
This can be achieved through:
- Support that certain pupils receive
- The text that is selected
- Offering differentiated levels of questions or activities in response to the text to ensure all pupils can reach their full potential.
Whole class reading sessions not only help foster a sense of reading community; they also offer challenge for all pupils, with activities and discussion alongside the text being able to be split into emerging, expected, exceeding, or mastery level tasks.
Our recommendations for whole class reads include a mix of popular classics and newly published titles which have been selected by our team of curriculum advisors, and we're confident that there is something here for every classroom.
